Year 12 German Debating Competition
This year, the German Department has entered a team of Year 12’s to the Goethe-Institut’s German Debating Competition for the first time, and on the 28th November, the first round took place for Aaron (Captain), Sebastian (2nd Speaker), Yuxuan (3rd Speaker) and Alistair (4th Speaker). The team were up against Belper School from Derbyshire, and were given the task of opposing the motion that “all schools should run mandatory environmental education courses”. Our team put on a particularly strong show, and Aaron was praised in particular for his closing remarks, and Alistair for his spiel. Compliments should also go to Seb and Yuxuan for strong contributions in their own right and great input in our questions for the opposition. The whole team were complimented for their expression and pronunciation, and thus we are delighted to say that we won, and will advance to the quarter-finals, which will take place in January. We wish them every success!
