Astronomy Stargazing Evening
On Thursday last week the Year 9 Astronomy group (which is an inter-school collaboration with Skinners' and Kent College) took part in a stargazing evening at Kent College. After a very wet couple of days, there were some doubts whether it would be a successful evening, but the weather gods were on our side and the skies cleared just as we arrived. We were welcomed with hot chocolate and, after a brief introductory talk, we spent the remainder of the time on the terrace. DR Bebb from Skinners' talked to the pupils about the constellations visible and, using a combination of binoculars and telescopes with could look at the moon in some detail, observed Jupiter and two of its moons and caught a glimpse of Uranus. We finished with another hot chocolate and went home happy, to warm up! A special thanks to Harry for allowing others to view through his telescope. The views of Jupiter he found were amazing.
