Double Knole Run Win
The Knole run, held by Sevenoaks School since 1973 saw a first this year, with a win from the same school in both the girls and boys races, with Judd winning the boys and girls team races.
Judd has a long tradition of cross country running at the school. The aim is not just excellence, but giving as many opportunities and experiences to pupils as possible throughout their time at school. The school has seen many runners go from 'non runners' in year 7 to county standard runners in year 12 or 13. Running club on a Wednesday attracts as many 40 pupils and this is where it all starts. Pupils run regularly and see improvement week on week; it is a rare sport where year groups mix so freely. The senior team this year will consist of year 10 pupils to year 13s and running club has year 7 to several staff members! If pupils are patient, they will all see massive progress if they keep running regularly and they hopefully all enjoy it in the process!
Two excellent examples of this mindset of perseverance and improvement were evident on Saturday. In the girls race Jess P (Y13) finished a brilliant 6th place but she hadn't raced until joining Judd in the 6th form. The attitude of her and boys' captain Tom (Y13) was first class, with Tom going from being the 4th or 5th fastest in his class at the start of year 7 to second place in the senior boys race and first Judd boy home on Saturday. These examples show what is possible when you keep working at something.
The Judd girls team on Saturday was made up of Carys 2nd, Jess P 6th, Polly 10th, Ruby 16th and Jess in 59th, scoring 34 points and being the first ever Judd girls team to finish on the podium, let alone win the race! Coopers School, Essex were 2nd with 44 points.
The boys team was Tom 2nd, Josh 4th, Jack 7th, George 10th, Mark 11th and Ethan 32nd, scoring 66 points, with Abingdon School finishing second with 121 points. It was the 6th time in a row the Judd boys team has won the Senior Knole run, another 'first' to happen in this year's race.
